Understanding A Boys Eating Habits

Boys like to eat.

I know…”Thank you Captain Obvious what else ya got?”

What I’ve got is the inside scoop on the mindset of a boys eating cycle. And learning this fascinating tidbit of information left me entertained and happily intrigued with my son.

Recently on a long road trip we were forced to stop at what shall remain an unnamed fast food restaurant (because it was Sunday…thus no Chick Fil A for us) and our son instantly was thrown into a dilema that was causing him some agitation.

“I’m so confused, I don’t know what to do!” He wailed.

“What?!” The rest of us blarked out in unison!

His explanation, “I want one big burger because it will taste so good, but then when I’m almost finished eating I’ll be so sad. So maybe I should get two little burgers, so when I am almost finished eating the first one and start to get sad, I’ll get happy again because I’ll realize I still have another burger to eat. But the little one’s are not as good! I don’t know what to do?”

Observing his face…I realized…oh my gosh…he is serious. He is wrestling with this decision!

An ongoing question and answer session ensued as the rest of the family grilled him (no pun intended) on his seriousness regarding this little issue and he assured us it was a very real dilema. And he let us know that’s how he goes through his days when any meal and/or snack is offered.

He further explained that the same happy/sad cycle existed when it came to attending school, sleeping, going to a movie…you name it. It’s all about making the happy last as long as possible and becoming sad whenever the “end of the fun/good” nears.

WOW! That right there is deep…or slightly irrational…at the time I decided to go with irrational and we just laughed about it and were entertained by what we dubbed his happy/sad cycle!

I have a tendency to make some big bad deep life lesson out of everything – so I refrained.

But I do have a few ideas on the life lesson…but I’m holding off till the next road trip!
