When my son was in the fourth grade his father and I made the decision to bring him home from school to home school him. That was a great year for him and for me. I used some curriculum, but I also created some of my own stuff for him, to better help him improve in areas where he had weaknesses. Being a home school mom also helped me improve in areas where I had weaknesses. Confession time – I can lack discipline. I always manage to get it … [Read more...]

Can Moms Wear Boy Pants?
I hope the answer to that title is yes...because I am! What's a mom to do when it seems women's clothing is getting stranger and skimpier? Well, when she has a teen son she raids his "out grown clothes" box and finds herself a few new clothes! Heck yes! I have a couple pair of jeans, new shorts and due to the low waistedness of them my muffin top (lament) seems relatively well camoflauged. No, I won't wear these clothes out in public … [Read more...]
Green Mom? Not good!
Being a mom is HARD. Forget "Calgon take me away" sometimes during the course of a typical week any mom (who's honest) wants to stand up and scream, upon which blood vessels will strain, her body will begin to contort, her skin will turn green and a Hulk-like transformation occurs. Well, maybe not on the outside, but sometimes we do get frustrated and go all Hulk on the inside. Um-hum. As I recall watching the Hulk lose it, transform … [Read more...]
A Writer’s Anguish
It’s on the tip of my thoughts Yet so illusive Restless wanderings In search of the starting gate The battle ... my prideful thoughts or His words of enlightenment Leaves me paralyzed Staring at the white abyss What letters to form How to begin the structure Of spirit breathed prose Tantalizing torment Avoidance must cease Beat back uncertainty Do not linger Simply … [Read more...]
Day of Prayer
Twice a year Cru (formally known as Campus Crusade for Christ) has a Day of Prayer in which all of the people involved with all of their different ministry outreaches cease striving and spend the day before the Lord in prayer. What an amazing spiritual discipline for each of us to practice - extended, focused time in prayer. We met together at a state park and had a time of aloneness in God's creation going before the Lord in prayer and we … [Read more...]

On Saturday night we had a couple of adults join us, as I always … [Read more...]
Blessed To Guest
Hey Friends! You know how some people just "shine" when you meet them? Several years ago I met Tim Kimmel and his wonderful wife Darcy - shine and sparkle for sure! Tim's books are some of my favorite parenting books! I have also been blessed by the wisdom and grace of Darcy through her on-line articles. I did a happy dance when I was asked a year or so ago to be a guest blogger for their site for parents. I am so very blessed to be a … [Read more...]
Aggressive Girls – STOP IT!
Source: momlifetoday.com via Tracey on Pinterest I have just about had enough! For those of you who are raising little boys, allow me to warn you: when they get a little older (and I do mean a little older), they will be facing some rather aggressive girls who do not live by the same social etiquette rules most of us grew up with! I remember being told by both of my parents not to pursue boys, and that was pretty easy for me to … [Read more...]
