“Why would you mop the floor...it doesn’t even look dirty? Besides, it’s just gonna get dirty again?” I giggled and kept my head down, steady on the task. My son had just moved all the furniture out of my way and vacuumed the kitchen floor, it was now up to me to do my part of the shared chore. I must admit, for a few seconds I considered his point of view. It really didn’t look dirty. But I knew it was. We live on a little ranch … [Read more...]
Faith Is More Than Believing
It isn’t easy being a follower of Christ. That seems like a negative statement, but it is far from untrue. My Grandmama consistently told me that the most important thing is to love like Jesus. Some people are hard to love. Sometimes, some people in my own family tree are hard to love. A-hem, sometimes I am hard to love. And guess what – so are you! It is our human condition to be self seeking – to see the world and those around us … [Read more...]
Are You An Eagle or A Turkey?
There are times when you read something, especially a good word picture - and it sticks with you. You ruminate on it and toss it back it forth in your mind and then it settles into you and helps you clearly make choices. I’d like to introduce you to such a word picture I read in Anne Graham Lutz' book, Why? Trusting God When You Don’t Understand. In this book she addresses, with wisdom, very well the choice each of us must make when faced … [Read more...]
Hearing God With Your Eyes
Have you noticed the birds? At my home they are even singing at night, just outside my bedroom window. Spring time is wonderfulness. An amazing reminder of God’s ability to make all things new! Baby birds in nests that mama birds have lovingly constructed. I have already watched one group of babies grow and fly the nest and now a new group has shown up nearby – still in their eggs, with mama dutifully protecting. Just this week … [Read more...]
Summertime & The Livin’s Sleazy
Really? According to many sources there are LOTS of people reading Shades of Grey. Lots. Of. People. Like, even people that are sitting in church on Sunday. Um hum. That’s really curious to me. Shades of Grey is erotic fiction. As far as I can tell, by the description of erotic fiction and the words of many who are referring to the book as “mommy porn” – that means everybody pretty much knows Shades of Grey is a sleazy … [Read more...]
Happily Inadequate
I admit it – I am woefully inadequate. Frequently. Oh how that used to bother me. A lot. That is what is so very interesting about the work of the Holy Spirit and time spent reading God’s word. The more I read the Bible, the more I realize how far, far away my life is from the life of Christ. I mean really, at every turn He willingly, with grace, put others before Himself and took time, lots of time, to love others – no matter … [Read more...]

Wow
As I sat down to write I was struck by the fact that I didn't quite know where to begin. Suffice it to say I have had quite the twenty four hours. Yesterday I was on a one hour conference call with some amazingly gifted and Godly folks who believe, really believe in the book I have written and want to work with me to get it into the hands of moms. Wow. My daughter, who got home from college on Monday left again yesterday to head to … [Read more...]
Foster Care Prayer Vigil – Hosts Needed
I have supported Hope for Orphans since 2006 and it is my fervent prayer that others in the mom blogging space will join with Hope for Orphans for the National Foster Care Prayer Vigil. Five years ago during a gathering of orphan advocates at Saddleback Church I stood at a small table and registered those who would commit to pray. That day I slowly watched the map of the United States fill up with prayer vigils being committed to all across … [Read more...]
Anxiety & Fear Wave
I am in a difficult place right now. I just read over and camped on Psalm 23 for a bit. Rather than quiet waters...I sense a churning. An overwhelming crash of emotion...a wave of anxiety and fear. As I concentrate on God and who He is in the face of my uncertainty, though the wave is upon me, it slowly abates with the ebb of peace and calm – just as the waves of the ocean. God is not surprised by anything happening in my life right … [Read more...]
