Happy Mother’s Day Cow…say what?
Normally if you put the words "Mother's Day" and "cow" in the same sentence you might get a kick in the shins from the female you uttered those words to! (OK, the "utter" was bad, but I couldn't resist!) However, this Mother's Day cow is an inspired idea brought to us from Heifer International. If you have never heard of Heifer...well, you need to know about them. It is an organization that allows you to purchase livestock to be given to … [Read more...]
Good Stuff
Today has been a good day! I started the morning at Barbara Rainey's home for a little get together for several women who are giving their lives to the service of others by being on staff at FamilyLife.It was fun to sit in a room filled with women from all over the country who are stepping into the unknown, but looking forward with anticipation as to how God will use and grow their families as they help other families. Good stuff.I then went … [Read more...]
Photoshop Sucks
I just watched this video and it made me want to scream!Photoshop sucks... the pounds, wrinkles, sun spots, blemishes and natural curves, right off of your body. At what cost?The women who view magazine photos are daily being made to feel "less than" because they do not measure up to the women in the photographs. Hey, the women in the photographs don't measure up to the women in the photographs. Because the photos are NOT REAL.More importantly we … [Read more...]
Lesson From a Baby
Yesterday I enjoyed a very special treat! I got to spend much of the day with the nine month old daughter of a very good friend who had a doctor's appointment. Truth be told, part of me thought it would be a bit of a stretch to spend several hours with a baby because I have a tendency to be "high task" and somehow manage to fill every moment of every day getting something done. Well, sweet little Isabel cured me of that affliction. I am … [Read more...]
HELP…I Have Become My Mother
This morning I was baking a cake. And suddenly I let out an audible yelp! Then the following phrase ran through my panicked mind, "Oh no...I have become my mother!" Now don't get me wrong, I love my mother - she's an important part of my life. I just would prefer not to pick up some of her quirky habits that I have always thought were ridiculous. Just how do you prevent yourself from becoming that which you always thought was … [Read more...]
Prom = Fainting Dad
“Breathe in. Breathe out. And for goodness sakes, don’t freak out!” That’s what you say to your husband seconds before his teenage daughter walks into the room in her long sought after prom dress. Then you stand behind him and prepare to catch (or be flattened) if he faints when he sees his “little girl” looking like a young woman.It really messes with your head when you see your cowgirl, blue jean and flannel shirt daughter who can usually be … [Read more...]
TV Family Movie Night is Back
OK friends, this Friday may just be the “re-start” of something great! Years ago Friday nights used to be “Family Movie Night” on network television. However, as we can all attest to, settling down with your family in front of the TV these days requires speed and accuracy with the remote. You know what I’m talking about, all of us have become professionals in our ability to mute and even push the off button in the blink of an eye!The jury is out, … [Read more...]
Thankful For Shoes
So, if you read yesterday's post, I'm hoping at some point today you have gone barefoot in honor of the millions of children around the world who have no shoes!As I was "suiting up" for my morning walk, I was suddenly aware that I needed to take that three mile walk with my shoes off. I am bummed to report that my normal walking route was interrupted and I turned around at about the halfway mark because my feet were hurting. … [Read more...]
Surrender Your Shoes – for Kids w/out Shoes
This is one of those moments when I wish I had TONS of moms reading my blog...because I want all moms out there to join me in sharing a very practical teaching moment with their children.Have you ever stopped to think of the number of children around the world who spend every day of their lives barefoot? At first glance you may think that's sad, but it's more than sad...it leaves them vulnerable to disease and injury. Toms … [Read more...]
