Widows Voice

Are you weary today? I know you have had lots of “to do’s” - that is a given for any mom. Has it been a long week of caring for the needs of your family and the endless upkeep of your home? Did you have those MOMents were you just wanted to scream and run away? The frustration, the unending needs, the having so much to do that you didn’t have time to even take a breath. I met someone today...a mom, who is alone with her children. Her … [Read more...]

Face-Plant Teaches Life Lesson

I have been told pain has memory - physical pain and emotional pain. As I have wrestled with the unexpected "bobbles" and "wrecks" while working towards a dream, I recently found myself propelled back in time to a memory of a wreck that is seared into my brain. Suddenly the world was upside down and I found myself launched head over heals, soaring over the handlebars of my bike. Confused and broken hearted as my dream was literally crashing … [Read more...]

Words Matter

Words matter. Words that are said. Words that are omitted. Words, or the lack thereof, are a powerful motivator...or de-motivator. Words can tear down. Words can build up. Words are sometimes carelessly tossed and chip away at the countenance of another. Words are sometimes harshly calculated and tear away at the heart of another. Words tumbled out of your mouth today...how did they effect those who heard them? Words … [Read more...]

Moms College Journey

One year ago I began a new and scary journey as I faced the effect college life was about to have on me. Not because I was going to college, but because my first born...my baby girl...my Samara was leaving our home and venturing out on her own. For her, the past year has been filled with new friends, new experiences, new adventures, travel and a fuller appreciation for learning. She has had her ups and downs, but more than anything she has … [Read more...]

Blueberry n Blackberry Bliss!

I just had to share the joy and happiness I am experiencing swimming in a sea of berries! Saturday morning and this morning I spent several hours at the berry patch - that is a mere five miles from my home! I know...how blessed am I? I truly think gathering berries is a Creator/created experience and I am in a state of constant thanksgiving as I harvest the little balls of sugary goodness He so graciously provides. I find myself thanking … [Read more...]

Summer Teen Zombie Apocalypse Invasion

Not really, but when you write a post about teens it just seems the words Zombie Apocalypse should be in the title! (If you have teens you know I’m right.) “Ahh, that’s the best ever, thank you Mrs. Eyster!” was repeated about 15 times this morning...and again a few hours later. I learned years ago the truth that my wonderful friend Gina recently shared, about the importance of allowing your home to be a fun hang out for your children and … [Read more...]

Hearing God With Your Eyes

Have you noticed the birds? At my home they are even singing at night, just outside my bedroom window. Spring time is wonderfulness. An amazing reminder of God’s ability to make all things new! Baby birds in nests that mama birds have lovingly constructed. I have already watched one group of babies grow and fly the nest and now a new group has shown up nearby – still in their eggs, with mama dutifully protecting. Just this week … [Read more...]

Summertime & The Livin’s Sleazy

Really? According to many sources there are LOTS of people reading Shades of Grey. Lots.  Of.  People. Like, even people that are sitting in church on Sunday. Um hum. That’s really curious to me. Shades of Grey is erotic fiction. As far as I can tell, by the description of erotic fiction and the words of many who are referring to the book as “mommy porn” – that means everybody pretty much knows Shades of Grey is a sleazy … [Read more...]

Happily Inadequate

I admit it – I am woefully inadequate. Frequently. Oh how that used to bother me. A lot. That is what is so very interesting about the work of the Holy Spirit and time spent reading God’s word. The more I read the Bible, the more I realize how far, far away my life is from the life of Christ. I mean really, at every turn He willingly, with grace, put others before Himself and took time, lots of time, to love others – no matter … [Read more...]
