The little boy I have cuddled with, zoomed cars with and built towers tall with is no longer a little boy, he is a young man who now towers over me. His sixteen year old boyish grin is outlined by a scruffy beard, his shoulders are broad, his voice deep – yet still filled with kind compassion as he reveals snip-its of his day with me. He has always been so willing to share his thoughts. Someday he will have a wife who will be blessed by his … [Read more...]
Dizzy Kids A Real Danger
Are your kids a bit too dizzy? It happens you know. At least, it happens to my kids! When the world begins to revolve around them and their wants and needs being met. I know all the reasons. It’s easier to keep the peace if you just give them … [Read more...]
Moms College Journey
One year ago I began a new and scary journey as I faced the effect college life was about to have on me. Not because I was going to college, but because my first born...my baby girl...my Samara was leaving our home and venturing out on her own. For her, the past year has been filled with new friends, new experiences, new adventures, travel and a fuller appreciation for learning. She has had her ups and downs, but more than anything she has … [Read more...]

Summer Teen Zombie Apocalypse Invasion
Not really, but when you write a post about teens it just seems the words Zombie Apocalypse should be in the title! (If you have teens you know I’m right.) “Ahh, that’s the best ever, thank you Mrs. Eyster!” was repeated about 15 times this morning...and again a few hours later. I learned years ago the truth that my wonderful friend Gina recently shared, about the importance of allowing your home to be a fun hang out for your children and … [Read more...]
Home School Mom Again!
When my son was in the fourth grade his father and I made the decision to bring him home from school to home school him. That was a great year for him and for me. I used some curriculum, but I also created some of my own stuff for him, to better help him improve in areas where he had weaknesses. Being a home school mom also helped me improve in areas where I had weaknesses. Confession time – I can lack discipline. I always manage to get it … [Read more...]
Can Moms Wear Boy Pants?
I hope the answer to that title is yes...because I am! What's a mom to do when it seems women's clothing is getting stranger and skimpier? Well, when she has a teen son she raids his "out grown clothes" box and finds herself a few new clothes! Heck yes! I have a couple pair of jeans, new shorts and due to the low waistedness of them my muffin top (lament) seems relatively well camoflauged. No, I won't wear these clothes out in public … [Read more...]
Aggressive Girls – STOP IT!
Source: momlifetoday.com via Tracey on Pinterest I have just about had enough! For those of you who are raising little boys, allow me to warn you: when they get a little older (and I do mean a little older), they will be facing some rather aggressive girls who do not live by the same social etiquette rules most of us grew up with! I remember being told by both of my parents not to pursue boys, and that was pretty easy for me to … [Read more...]
What Have Your Child’s Eyes Seen?
Yesterday over at MomLife Today we ran a post that literally made me gasp - no doubt you will too. It suggests that the average age a child first views pornography is far younger than you might suspect. The fact is, the average age of the first inception of pornography these days is 11. Yep. You read that right. Eleven. As in fifth grade. Last year of elementary school. (And that’s average. Yep, nine year olds are looking at porn.) On this … [Read more...]
Teen Watch
Raising teenagers really is a wonderful thing and the relational bond made through the years serves as an anchor in times of tumult. In so many ways we as parents are given the opportunity to help our teens understand and navigate the world around them. Now, more than ever, that navigation requires intentional steering and a hand always at the ready to toss out a life preserver of truth. Teens really do want to be spoken into, even if they … [Read more...]
