Twilight, 50 Shades & Magic Mike Hissing
God brought something to mind today...that is disturbing me. It has left me unnerved and shaken. Are you aware that for decades there has been a very dirty secret out there that’s mostly “hush-hush” in social circles? The dirty secret is the exploitation of boys. In many places on the Internet there are cries of horror over the injustices of sexual slavery. There are many ministries sharing the plight of thousands of young girls forced to … [Read more...]
RandoMOM Observations
Hiking when it’s over 100 degrees is exhilarating, in a totally drenched in sweat sort of way. Dead leaves on my trees makes me sad. When my husband calls and says, “How you doin?” (in a Joey from friends sort of way) it still makes me giggle and swoon! When you invite a group of women to your home for “tea” you learn some things - like even though I am a southern lady...I really am a simple country girl...and I am … [Read more...]
Get The Grime Out – Mop Optional
“Why would you mop the floor...it doesn’t even look dirty? Besides, it’s just gonna get dirty again?” I giggled and kept my head down, steady on the task. My son had just moved all the furniture out of my way and vacuumed the kitchen floor, it was now up to me to do my part of the shared chore. I must admit, for a few seconds I considered his point of view. It really didn’t look dirty. But I knew it was. We live on a little ranch … [Read more...]
10 Rules for Authors
I just had to share this. My dear sweet friend Gina Smith sent me this last week the day before I left for Colorado Springs to meet with my publisher, do radio and otherwise present myself as a “big deal” author even though I am just little ol me and very much not a big deal. Out of the blue she sent this to me and I laughed and laughed until I breathed easy and realized I just had to be me and not try to impress anyone! So that’s what I … [Read more...]
Phooey on Tight Schedules
If you are an anal retentitve list keeper that must get lots accomplished to feel happy and secure - you may want to close your eyes, or click away, or be prepared to start laughing. This is not your kinda post - but then again, maybe that's exactly why you should keep reading. You see, I am guest posting over at Family Matters Blog and as a recovering Busy Mom myself - I decided to share my "take" on summer time schedules. Or should a say … [Read more...]
Interviews, Fires and Friendships
Last week was magnificent and magnanimously frightening at the same time. I was in Colorado Springs to visit Focus on the Family for several meetings and various tapings for radio. My mind was constantly wandering to those who had escaped from the fire and were losing their homes and those working tirelessly to save them. Amid their devastation and chaos it was a challenge to remain focused on why I was there. I finally decided that what God … [Read more...]
Book Reality
How does one react when a dream becomes a reality? I got a call from Tyndale - my books are in! One of the wonderful new friends I have made at Tyndale actually snapped a photo of my book and e-mailed it to me. How cool is that? I leave tomorrow for Focus on the Family to do a radio interview. I have several meetings while there as well. I have had telephone calls with p.r. people and marketing people and it all just seems so … [Read more...]
Faith Is More Than Believing
It isn’t easy being a follower of Christ. That seems like a negative statement, but it is far from untrue. My Grandmama consistently told me that the most important thing is to love like Jesus. Some people are hard to love. Sometimes, some people in my own family tree are hard to love. A-hem, sometimes I am hard to love. And guess what – so are you! It is our human condition to be self seeking – to see the world and those around us … [Read more...]
Are You An Eagle or A Turkey?
There are times when you read something, especially a good word picture - and it sticks with you. You ruminate on it and toss it back it forth in your mind and then it settles into you and helps you clearly make choices. I’d like to introduce you to such a word picture I read in Anne Graham Lutz' book, Why? Trusting God When You Don’t Understand. In this book she addresses, with wisdom, very well the choice each of us must make when faced … [Read more...]
