Last week a friend of mine said to me, "I don't know how to be happy." That admission has caused me to pause and contemplate the reasoning behind such a shocking statement. It has also caused me to think about us moms and the issue of happiness. Before motherhood most of us had ample opportunity to pursue what made us happy. The world and our future lay before us and the days' choices largely were made based on our own personal needs. But once … [Read more...]
Moms N’ Paintball!
I just spent the last weekend acting like a teenager! I went to a women's retreat that was held at a youth camp and they offered some primo activities. I was 20 stories high on a zip line, I strategized my way through three rounds of some serious paintball battles and I danced the night away at an 80's Dance Party! (Oh yeah, headband, leg warmers and the bump - quite the site!) I can honestly say...I felt like a … [Read more...]
Teenagers = Danger To Adults
Teenagers. You have to love them, or you would go mad trying to deal with the mood swings. I mean really, one minute you are enjoying a perfectly yummy salad dinner and having a normal conversation, the next minute you are dealing with someone who thinks you are a lunatic.So, at dinner last night when my daughter was clearly exasperated with our ineptness as adults, parents, and humans because we were not seeing things her way, my brilliant … [Read more...]
Teen Trash Talk
Comments from my teens in the last 24 hours that made me laugh:Procrastinators unite - tomorrow!I'm the good kid...right mom?If I eat macaroni and cheese now can I still have dinner, in an hour, when we eat?Here mom...thought you might want this week old peanut butter and jelly sandwhich.I am worn out. I only got three hours of sleep Friday night and four hours of sleep Saturday night, so I don't have to go to school tomorrow...right?I need … [Read more...]
The writing’s on the wall…uh, hand
So, I am speaking as a mom, not as a political analyst - because...I am a mom, not a political analyst. And this post is not about politics, it's about momness. Reporters have been giving Sarah Palin a hard time because of the notes she wrote on her hand at a recent event where she was speaking. Are you serious? Years ago I had a friend who was a nurse teach me that one. That's the smartest trick in the book (or should I say "handbook" - har, … [Read more...]

Snow Day Fun! (“Fat”)
Ever have one of those "fat" days where you were just daggum happy? I just did! (The "fat" is compliments of my teen daughter...she added that when I walked away from the computer...and no, I was not just insulted - that means "great" in her world!)We have some fat friends who were traveling out of town, so their four children came over yesterday and are spending a few fat days with us. (More "fat"...compliments of my daughter!) Last night and … [Read more...]
Epic Fail!
Teenagers: so quick to voice their opinions. The other day my sweet daughter, upon observing a little mistake I made while preparing dinner, made one of her humorous quips, "Epic fail," followed by a shake of the head and a slight smirk. "Excuse me?" I replied. She repeated, "Epic fail." "That sounds like a good title," I said. "I should do an "Epic fail" post ... what should I write it about?" To which she retorted, "Would you … [Read more...]
Photo Fun
Life seems to tick by so very slowly when I am living through the day before me. Life seems to be moving at warp speed when I bump into a box of old photos and sit, remember and smile. How did my sweet, fun, rambunctious children turn into teenagers already? How can I be looking up at both of them as we conversate? Today's treasure box of memories proved interesting. The silly grin I had on my face while reliving captured photographic … [Read more...]
Mom Rant!
Okay ... if you do not enjoy hearing an otherwise level-headed mom share a little rant you may want to just sit this post out! Realize I'm just venting here, so please allow me to type for a while. Why am I the only person in this house who will put things back where they belong? Over Christmas I went to get my scissors ... not there. I went to get my paring knife ... gone. The lighter for the fireplace ... missing. Grrrr. Here's my big … [Read more...]
