Are there male people in your home? So, tell me...are they ridiculously addicted to the television program Wipe Out? I have two male people in my home - a hubby and a 14 year old. I'm not sure which one is the teen when the two of them get their weekly "fix" of watching people being battered, flung about and humiliated while throwing their flailing bodies through the craziest assortment of obstacle courses you have ever had the … [Read more...]

Love, Hate and Jillian Michaels
I am happy to report I am still at it! The 30 day shred has hovered in the confines of my DVD player well over two months! And I have just about gotten every word Jillian growls at me memorized. How do I do it? (You sit in wonder and ask.) Sheer stubborn determination... and the idea that the blood pumping so hard through my veins and the oxygen being forced in and out of my lungs will keep me around a long time so that I might someday be a … [Read more...]

Loss, Love and a Sweet Little Girl
I just got back from a funeral. Death stinks. Thankfully, for “Uncle Ick” (as my children have always referred to him) death means the ushering in of eternal life, freedom from pain and discarding the cane he has had to walk with for two decades due to a debilitating injury. But for those of us left behind…the fact remains, death stinks. Looking into the eyes of his wife of 29 years, (my hubby’s sister) and seeing pain, loss, … [Read more...]
Interviews and Options
Oh my goodness, how do such things happen? Phone Call: Would you like to do an interview with Mary Beth Chapman, wife of Stephen Curtis Chapman? Me: Uh...of course! E-mail: Would you like to be a radio guest on Girl Talk Texas? Me: Uh...of course! Pause...a day passes... My options: Option 1 - Oh my gosh, what was I thinking...I am definitely going to crash and burn here...I am just a mom after all. What do I know about such … [Read more...]
Miley…Seriously? Heavy Sigh.
OK - I avoided it for a month. Sort of how you avoid going to the dentist when you have a toothache...because you know it's gonna hurt. I am a Southern girl, raised with Southern values (and quirks) by parents who love me dearly. When the whole Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana craze started I liked the fact that she was sharing good old fashioned Southern values (and quirks) with the world. The show was light hearted, fun, and spoke some decent life … [Read more...]
Do You Like Who Your Teens Like?
When our children are young we sort of pick their friends. You know it's true - we plan play dates with the kids we want our children to hang out with, we put them into activities with the kids we like. It is comforting to know that your children are being influenced by the children you approve of. Then as they become tweens and teens, who they hang out with becomes less and less under your control. They have a mind of their own and they get … [Read more...]
Six Year Old Shout Out
Yesterday at church the absolute sweetest thing occurred that literally made me cry. We attend services in “The Edge” which is a more contemporary, edgy and loud worship experience, so in general there are few children in there - it’s mostly their parents who attend that service. But yesterday there was a family with young children sitting right in front of us. Midway through the initial praise music the worship Pastor asked us to be silent … [Read more...]
Teen Wisdom
Yesterday I was having one of those deep and meaningful conversations with my teen daughter ... OK we were having words because we were not seeing eye to eye on something ... OK we were having an argument. Going through teenlife is a whole new mind bending experience when you are sitting on the other side of it as a mom. I have heard it said that the older a child gets the harder it is to parent. Now that I have made it through the baby years, … [Read more...]
