OK, I admit it...I do not like to clean anymore. (My house that is!)In my younger days I was a bit of a clean freak, I would so enjoy some good scrubbing with a big bottle of bleach, some rags, a mop and a good deal of discretionary time.Once I became a mom, I would still do a good amount of cleaning, though not quite as thoroughly as bk (before kids) because there was so little of that discretionary time left lying around. In the last several … [Read more...]
Teens Caught School Sued??
You have got to be kidding me???I just read about a couple of teen girls who did some pretty disgusting things at a sleepover party and then posted photos of it on MySpace. As a result the photos got handed around at school, their coaches saw them and they ended up being disciplined by the coaches based on the schools conduct policy and disciplinary guidelines. The result? These two 14 year old girls sued the school.Parents of teens, if you have … [Read more...]
Teen Dirty Dancing
Last month on FamilyLife MomBlog, where I am the Editor and a contributor, I wrote a post about "dirty dancing" amongst teens and how it was an alarming facet of teen culture that parents need to address with their teens.Well, you could have "blown me over with a feather" when I read the recent report from the Los Angeles Times that even public schools realize the inappropriateness of sexually explicit dancing at school events and they are taking … [Read more...]
Where have I been?
Forgive my absence friends! I just returned from a FamilyLife Board of Directors meeting and WOW are there lots of things to be excited about in the coming months! God continues to bless the 33+ year ministry of FamilyLife and I am counting my blessings that my husband and I are part of the FamilyLife team!I initially was going to "stay live" by blogging and tweeting while I was away, but decided a "fast" from my computer was in order. Some fun … [Read more...]
Pat On The Back
OK, so maybe I'm pathetic, but I was looking for a little pat on the back today from someone in my family. I spent about an hour cleaning out our refrigerator. Yuck, I truly loath that chore. Once again I was amazed at the number of items that had gotten shoved to the back and forgotten about or tipped over and spilled to create pools of stickiness. In spite of everything having a lid on it. Who does these things? How does that happen? Of … [Read more...]
My Good Friend…Blaze
FRIEND FRIDAY I have avoided writing about this for three months. Four years ago we got ourselves the cutest little puppy dog you have ever seen...I know, besides yours. My daughter named him Blaze because he was black with a white "blaze" down the front of his chest. On the day we picked him up from a quaint farmhouse in West Virginia he bonded with us immediately. As a puppy he was always on the heels of my son and they quickly became … [Read more...]
Fall Ramblings
I really enjoy Fall...and it appears to be rapidly approaching! Bring it on! During my morning walks my lungs now fill with cool crisp air, my well worn walking shoes crunch small fallen leaves and the smile on my rosy colored face broadens. The changing of the seasons shouts to my heart that God is in control, life moves forward, seasons come and seasons go and each one brings with it a new adventure to savor. It seems that each new … [Read more...]
My Good Friend…Sara
FRIEND FRIDAY Sara Felix Goodrich Lancaster. My mothers mom. Grandmama. My good friend. My earliest memories of Grandmama encompass her doing things to serve others. She made the best fried chicken I have ever tasted and was always most pleased to serve it to others with a smile and a wave of her hand when the individual went on and on about how good it was. Weekly Sunday afternoon meals at her home always included a rousing game of … [Read more...]
Wanna Laugh?
A few months ago Tim Hawkins made a visit to FamilyLife to tape some radio programs and while there he did some of his stand up comedy for the staff and our families. Children of all ages were there and he was definitely a family friendly act!He was absolutely hilarious...and a really nice guy. He talked with our family for a bit and even posed for a picture with my teens. We have been Tim Hawkins fans for well over a year and anytime we need a … [Read more...]
Cooking Strike
The cooking strike has now ended. You see, hubby has been traveling for a week, so I went on a cooking strike. I don't know why it is less motivating to cook when he's not home...but it just is somehow.Could it be because my daughter is a picky eater...still? Could it be that as long as it's food my 13 year old son, who is currently growing about an inch a month, will eat anything as long as it's not still mooing or rooted into the ground?I did … [Read more...]
