I am being driven slowly into madness. By fruit flies. They are evil. Tiny red eyes evil. Taking over my home evil. Making me crazy evil. (Yes, there are worse things...but they really are causing me much angst.) Then a dim memory flashed. My parents gave me something they called a fruit fly catcher that they purchased from a Kentucky State Park. After a flurry of activity I found said fruit fly catcher, found out … [Read more...]
Paint Your Shoes
Women and shoes - oh yeah, it may seem cliche, but dag-gone it, we love us some shoes! As my daughter was packing up for college {sniff, sniff} she was making some decisions of epic proportion of what she would and would not take with her. And there were far too many "would's" than "would not's" being gathered. I was trying to offer advice without being a nagging mom, but she couldn't seem to grasp that her dorm room only had so much space … [Read more...]
Plant A Pineapple – Really!
When we lived in South Florida we bought a little home in charming neighborhood from this sweet elderly couple who had lived there nearly two decades and it was adorable. This couple had quite the green thumb and we inherited some amazing plants that provided us with sustenance many months of the year. We had orange trees, lemon trees, grapefruit trees and key lime trees that were full to overflowing with fruit. I used to write up our … [Read more...]
Is Your Child Overwhelmed?
In today's competitive society adults are sometimes overwhelmed, unfortunately so are our children. Sometimes just getting daily school work done can leave children feeling stressed out because instead of doing their best they are striving to measure up to the kid sitting in the desk next to them. I remember when my son started the fourth grade I just knew something was up. I couldn’t quite place my finger on it, but I could see that he wasn’t … [Read more...]
Back To School Radio
I used to have regular Friday posts where I would introduce you to a friend - but I haven't been doing that much lately. I need to get back to that. Today, you can meet and hear a new friend I met a few months back I'm A Lazy Mom. I always seem to find myself wandering over to her blog to see what antics she is up to - yeah, not always so lazy. Anyway, our on-line friendship has been fun and today (that's today) I am going to be visiting … [Read more...]
Holy Spit Matters
If you have read my last few posts you may have noticed a common thread. P-I-T-I-F-U-L. Never underestimate the feeling of loss when your first child goes off to college. And this from a mom who is by nature ridiculously energetic and joyful. Ask anyone who knows me ... or anyone who sees me walking down the grocery store aisles. Skip-a-dee-doo-da-day! Suffice it to say God worked the pitiful out of me. This morning as I was … [Read more...]
I Vacuum At Writing
Because we don't use the "s" word for that in my home - though I did come dangerously close to using it anyway just now. Woe is me. I am fighting through the first edits on my book and I would like to scream and yell - lucky you, you get to read it. Pity party. In my pit. With Big O puddles. Splash. Splash. It truly is maddening - I am screaming at the page. But it's screaming back. I could be doing so many other things … [Read more...]
Imagine Your Child Disappearing
Mine did Two days ago To go to college I miss her so As memories flash my lips curl upward with a soft smile I feel tears welling in my eyes Memories are a sweet gift Taking the time each day to make them, a wise choice Amazing grace that she was given to me causes gratitude to flood over me Reminding me that her Father in heaven gave her to me for a season A season of loving, encouraging, … [Read more...]
Letting Go Of My Girl
I am having a sad day. Not sad in a pathetic way…just deeply reflective. How did 18 years happen…just like that? Such joy, fun and vibrant life lived while sharing my days with my first-born. I am so very grateful that God blessed me with her. I was told I would never have children, so that she and her younger brother were gifted to me is indeed an embraced blessing. As I contemplate her future I am filled with a sense of … [Read more...]
Loneliness Lie
Loneliness whispers..."unloved" and takes an otherwise hope filled day and tramples the joy out of it. Why must the nagging shrieks “you don’t measure up” wash over my heart? Pride reveals itself in so many nasty ways. Look at me. No one sees me. I don’t matter anyway. The ever present “me” thoughts are the counterfeit that robs Gods glory. The enemy skillfully annihilates my countenance and slithers in to invade my … [Read more...]
