That's easy, dreaming big dreams about what you are going to do better, or what you are finally planning to get up off of your backside to do. Spank That Kid!
To spank or not to spank...that is a "hot topic" question these days! This morning even the crew over at NBC's Today Show weighed in on the subject of spanking children! Visit msnbc.com for Breaking News, World News, and News about the Economy I found those mothers comments interesting. My comments back to them; never spank in anger, yelling can be more hurtful than a spanking and don't compare a teaching moment with a child to a … [Read more...]
Toddler Travel Trip
I am all about giving children life experience through travel in order to teach them about new people, places, and opportunities different than their own. We have traveled by several means of transportation to many places and we have stayed in various forms of accommodations. My children, like their mother, have become somewhat adept at the art of people watching and quiet observation in an effort to better understand the world around them. Teens Caught School Sued??
You have got to be kidding me???I just read about a couple of teen girls who did some pretty disgusting things at a sleepover party and then posted photos of it on MySpace. As a result the photos got handed around at school, their coaches saw them and they ended up being disciplined by the coaches based on the schools conduct policy and disciplinary guidelines. The result? These two 14 year old girls sued the school.Parents of teens, if you have … [Read more...]
Teen Dirty Dancing
Last month on FamilyLife MomBlog, where I am the Editor and a contributor, I wrote a post about "dirty dancing" amongst teens and how it was an alarming facet of teen culture that parents need to address with their teens.Well, you could have "blown me over with a feather" when I read the recent report from the Los Angeles Times that even public schools realize the inappropriateness of sexually explicit dancing at school events and they are taking … [Read more...]
Pat On The Back
OK, so maybe I'm pathetic, but I was looking for a little pat on the back today from someone in my family. I spent about an hour cleaning out our refrigerator. Yuck, I truly loath that chore. Once again I was amazed at the number of items that had gotten shoved to the back and forgotten about or tipped over and spilled to create pools of stickiness. In spite of everything having a lid on it. Who does these things? How does that happen? Of … [Read more...]
I am Thankful for Good Health
THANKFUL THURSDAYDo you ever wonder how you will find time to exercise? Most of us "want" to exercise, but claim we just don't have the time because our plate is just too full. This is especially true of moms.I've learned through the years that you make time for what is important to you. So maybe the question is not whether or not you have time, but whether or not your health is of importance to you.I really enjoy walking, running and hiking. … [Read more...]
I am Thankful for Laughter
THANKFUL THURSDAYOne of my favorite childhood memories of my Dad is of him laughing hysterically. I was very young, but I remember certain evenings when I wanted to be in the TV room to just be with and watch my Dad as he laughed.I talked with him about this recently and what we realized is that it was when he used to sit and watch Red Skelton. I do vaguely remember Red Skelton...but he was not why I was in the TV room...my father's laughter is … [Read more...]
Do you like me?
Do you remember receiving notes in elementary school that went something like this...I like you. Do you like me? Circle yes or noRemember the surge of excitement you would get when you realized someone liked you and wanted to be your friend? It was a great feeling then and it's a great feeling now.So yeah, I admit it...after less than a week of writing a personal blog I find myself holding my breath each day as I "stop by" to see if anyone has … [Read more...]
Just Do It
Have you ever been hanging out at home, day dreaming of the possibilities? You know, you start making plans...in your head...to go and do something really fun and then you think some more about it and you end up wimping out and decide, "Nah, that would be too much trouble, never mind." Bad move. Anything worth doing takes a lot of effort and shame on us when we let that stop us from having some fun and making memories. Over Labor Day … [Read more...]
